Pastor Lawanda Hampton, Mount Olive's spiritual leader, has gone from Mount Olive’s Sunday School Class to its pulpit. Pastor Lawanda Hampton now guides the path and protects the souls of her congregation and the community.
She is a graduate of Virginia Union University Samuel DeWitt School of Theology (Evan Smith) in 2015. In 2016, she completed her certification in Grief Issues and Special Needs and Advanced Theological Studies. Pastor Hampton will be celebrating her third Pastoral Anniversary this year and its going to be an eventful year. Her anniversary celebration will be on Saturday May 3rd, 2025, at 2:00pm at Mount Olive Church.
Having grown up in Mount Olive Church, Pastor Hampton has a perfect perspective of what is needed to capture and keep the attention of all her members old and young, both in the church and in the community.
From last year’s 'Lucyville' program with Cumberland Middle School, to 'Youth Day Out' and programs like ‘Faith to Freedom’ created, produced and presented by the young members of the congregation. The young members are inspired, engaged and energized to be involved. Inspiring the youth of your community is the key to keeping and building the congregation of one of Cumberland’s oldest black churches.
Pastor Hampton has the faith, the vision, the drive and the plan to take Mount Olive Baptist Church forward into its next 150 years.
It’s going to be a busy year, there a number of events with other churches in the area during the year and in August Mount Olive will host a revival, followed in September by the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
